Sunday got out to the barn and had no time to spend futzing around. Took Libbys wraps off, and gave her a quick grooming so I could take her out and hand walk her. She was HIGH, spooking at everything and anything, even having a mini tantrum at one point. Scared the bejesus out of me, because me being the worrier that I am I immediately thought she’d hurt herself again. I need to relax when it comes to my horses ha!
Poulticed her leg up with a new poultice, felt bad about using my friends the whole time, and wrapped her up. Stuck her in her stall, picked it out really quick (procrastination at its finest) and left before I could find other things to busy myself with. I have a busy week ahead of me so I needed to get started on my studying.
Monday, today, the vet came out for a reevaluation. She looked over her first in the barn, and checked her hooves one more time with the hoof tester. She explained how the thickness I was seeing was very superficial, and showed me how it didn’t matter how much she manipulated the SDFT Libby didn’t flinch. So she firmly believed her little lameness had nothing to do with that.
We brought her out and I trotted her and they flexed her just a bit. Libby looked great, save for a little bit of stiffness still in her right hind, and she was given the go ahead for work. But we are going to bring her back very slowly, with tomorrow being walk trot in straight lines, the next day adding canter, and the day after adding turns. Sounds good to me.
I’ve also made some decisions with regard to her supplements. I’m keeping her on the Farriers Formula, doing a half scoop of the Smartpak brand Vitamin E, and a half scoop of Mag-5000. I’m also going to start her up on Acti-flex. And then my vet is trying to get me in with the chiro she really trusts to do Libby, of whom when I called she told me she was booked through May, so we’ll see about that.
Tomorrow starts her trotting work 🙂
Hopefully Libs will be great!
